608th post: Small Change in foreign Currency

Having been to many different countries, I have accumulated quite a number of coins. As you probably know, the money changer do not carry coins besides that of the local currency. Sure I could create a collection out of these, but there are extras left over for it. How to deal with these?

I don’t know what is the smallest denomination the money changer would accept, but it’s certainly banknotes instead of coins. I have received RM1 notes, which are worth only US$0.31, and sometimes, the highest denominated notes of that currency aren’t worth much, so exchanging a few pieces, and getting the equivalent in foreign currency back as thick stacks of notes.

Well, if going to the country again, make sure to bring those coins along, and try to use as much of the smallest denomination as possible, or pay in a way that you don’t get small denominations. Example: Paying the exact change (or as close as possible) with as many of the low-denominated coins as possible instead of being lazy and use a denomination that is higher than what you are expected to pay. Would you rather have a note that could be changed back to your local currency, or have the same amount in coins that you can’t change?

Sometimes, that could be hard to avoid during the last day. One thing for sure is that I didn’t have those coins before I went there for the first time.

(Friend requests at my 2nd account is very long. Add that to the current 2800+ and my other accounts and you would get the idea how large it is. I don’t know what to do…)

Woke up at 0605h but still sleepy from the day before. Manage to turn off the alarm before they ring at 0610h. Dad asked me to shower before him. After finishing stuff and changing at 0640h, ate breakfast. Dad send me to school. Have to leave by 0710h to avoid massive jam. Since there is quite some time before class start, asked him to drop in the neighbourhooding town as usual. As it’s raining, I asked him to drop me elsewhere. Manage to get to the nearest bus stop that has buses that goes to my school. In the bus, I played my mp3 player.
When I reach there, I walked to school. (It was still raining and still listing to my mp3) When I was almost reach the usual junction, I hear a voice that I don’t recall being in the music. When I turned around, I saw an angry Chinese man in his 50s on his bike. I was surprised! I had no idea what he was saying to me though. He then cycled past me and then onto the nearby road (which is for vehicles travelling in the opposite direction) in a zig-zag manner. I think he’s mentally unstable.
Lessons went from 0825h to 1145h when there’s a break. Walked around the school aimlessly (and met several people) before heading towards the cafeteria (canteen if you want to call it that). The place was crowded. Took me some time to order food and finding a place to sit. Finished food around around 1250h. Went to class around 1310h to 1445h. Then went home.
There are many different ways for me to get home from there. For today, it’s one of the quickest non-car/taxi route home. Fell asleep along the way. When I woke up, I still haven’t reached there but noticed an increase of passengers. Reached home at around 1630h.
Planning to buy DVD-R discs and a micro SD card latter tomorrorow. PSP on 2 weeks later.

remove the unnecessary burderns

(Image above is related to previous post and has nothing to do with the current post)

Okay, I am now sick and tired of the unnecessary burdern of things that I don’t like doing or is happening.

Firstly, I would get the stuff that was never mine out of my room. I am already facing a shortage of space without it becoming messy and someone made it worse by putting stuff from somewhere (or moving my stuff) at the inconvient places like my study desk, the scanner, and a box which I open frequently. By putting those junk on top of it and leaving it there to rot for many months make me go mad. If so, why did you leave it there in the first place. If I want it removed, it should be done immidately and not the “I’ll do it later” attitude and in the end, not doing it at all.

Most of the people I am surrounded with seem to have the “I don’t care” or “it’s someone else’s job” mentality. The shows I see on local TV (and around the region) seem to lack originality and the over-use of things such as a woman shouting at a man over another woman, people hoping for a problem to be solve, which praying is ineffective, gambling, food shows that feature food that I don’t eat from random places, and movies/tv serials where acting, visuals and music that is not as realistic as compared to their American/British/Korean/Japanese counterparts.

Next, one of my CCAs at school is relying too much on me. Based on past events, I had to do things to the schedule which are maddening. I wouldn’t mind if I enjoyed it, but this is not what I had expected when I joined it. On top of that, I’m not even paid for it and poorly rewarded. Most of the people in it seem to ignore or hardly talk to me most of the time. Among those that do, I kind of find them annoying; it seems that they do very little work and on top of that, they do not attend meetings regularly. Some of them are too difficult to work with. So, I’ll skip future events because I am sick and tired of doing all the work while everyone else sits at one corner, expecting me to do the work when they themselves are supposed to do too. Sorry guys, I have to be honest here. I don’t care how important the event is or you people need me. I am already busy with other things which is already taking up time. There is already a very long list that I should be doing that has accumulated for many years and need a lot of catching up to do. In fact, more than half a year ago, one of my teachers told me that I need to quit some CCAs as it is affecting my studies. Sorry, but I have to leave. I don’t want to repeat the mistake of not opting-out art during my secondary school days. It take up too much time that I can use for something else. This is probably the last time I would mention about being in this particular CCA group.

There is a very long list, some too many to mention, some are already mentioned, and some are not worth mentioning.

Stuff mentioned in the post that I had put up a year ago is somewhat relevant to what I want in the future. (70m JPY = 800k SGD)

editing mp3 files using iTunes

I spent most of the day adding missing/corrupted information, making sure that compilations in an album appear together instead of seperately, and adding album images.

At first, I was clueless at to why mp3 info looks okay on this pc but when I transfer to another pc/device, the info (that is not in latin charaters) appears messed up (mojibake). I noticed that when I added/edited info using Windows Media Player or Apple iTunes (above), the text becomes okay, though the ones I edited earlier in windows explorer are still messed up. The problem now is that the music I “received” from chinese sites are messed up. I can solve it by copying the file/folder name or open the readme.txt included in it using firefox by changing the encoding. It’s time consuming though.
As for the album art, I was clueless as to how to add image until today. 1st, I have to move the folder of the songs away from where you originally save to (otherwise, the text info can be edited). Then make sure that the correct names of the songs are there (and select “yes” for “part of a combilation” if there are more than 1 artist singing different songs in the same album). Then, select all the songs of that album, select “get info” (1st option) and then click&drag the image to that box on the right that appears in itunes (you might want to crop the image if it’s not square or other parts (like back cover) are included). Now the image would appear when you play the song (if supported).
I haven’t tried the “Convert ID3 tags” yet. Not sure what it does. Might try on files that I have backup of or info that can be easily be found.
